The Associação Cultivamos Cultura, based in the municipality of Odemira, will represent Portugal at the 1st London Design Biennale, which will take place between the 7th and 27th of September, at Somerset House in London.

According to the Chamber of Odemira, «in this first edition, the Bienal organization launched the invitation to more than 30 countries, Portugal will be represented through Cultivamos Cultura, with designers Marta Menezes and Pedro Cruz, and curator of the Portuguese exhibition Manuel Lima, designer , author and researcher, member of the Royal Society of Arts of London, considered by the American magazine Creativity, as one of the 50 most creative and influential minds of 2009».

Cultivamos Cultura, headquartered in the parish of São Luís, municipality of Odemira, «is a platform for the experimentation and development of shared knowledge in the theory and practice of contemporary art, exploring its relationship with science, technology and the environment».

In practice, says the municipality, «this Association offers, in São Luís, a space for plastic artists to develop and exhibit their work. Since its foundation in 2009, the Association has been stimulating the local community through the promotion of plastic arts meetings, public art exhibitions with the participation of internationally renowned artists, as well as the promotion of exchanges with local artists».

The theme of the 1st London Design Biennale is “Utopia by Design”, which, according to the organization, is a tribute to the 500th anniversary of the work of philosopher Thomas Moore, who was at the origin of the concept of utopia. This initiative "intends to lead participants from various countries to explore how architecture, design and industry can contribute to making the world better and cities more pleasant places to live", concludes the Chamber of Odemira.
