Silves will have defibrillators in public places in the county

The Câmara de Silves, with the collaboration of Montepio, will spread defibrillators in different parts of the municipality, in an unprecedented initiative in Portugal. The 10 Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs), emergency medical intervention devices, "will be permanently available to the resident and visiting population, especially during major events, and can make the difference between life and death" according to Silvense municipality.

For now, defibrillators have been placed in the city of Silves, in Armação de Pêra, S. Bartolomeu de Messines and S. Marcos da Serra, «with the possibility of extending the initiative to other places and parishes in the near future».

At the same time, training actions are being promoted to teach how to use the devices and advertising and signage in places where the AEDs are installed.

The initiative will be filed between the Municipality of Silves and Montepio, in a solemn act scheduled for July 29 at 10:30 am, at the Paços do Concelho Building. The project has the collaboration of the João de Deus Mutual Aid Association and the Portuguese Red Cross.
