The Municipal Museum of Archeology of Silves will open the exhibition «A Guitarra Portuguesa – The Portuguese Guitar» on Friday. The exhibition can be visited until the 6th of November, in the museum's temporary exhibition room.

This exhibition reveals «all the curiosities related to this musical instrument, such as the three types of guitars that exist», also focusing on the main master builders, such as Álvaro da Silveira and the Grácio and Cardoso families.

«The Portuguese guitar, built in such a way as to have 12 strings, will have been one of the decisive factors for the classification of Fado as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity, as it is an inseparable element of this musical genre, influencing music by its sound, form and construction unique», framed the Chamber of Silves.

The exhibition has the support of the City Council and the Museum of Portimão (where the exhibition was produced and presented for the first time), as well as the Fado Museum-EGEAC, the Stap Group and the Monumenta magazine.
