Classic EnCante 06 (web)This year's edition of the Caixa a Sul Festival, promoted by Caixa Geral de Depósitos, in partnership with the Orquestra Clássica do Sul (OCS), proposes an eclectic program that will take music to various parts of the Algarve and Alentejo, from 6th to 20th August.

The Orchestra, under the direction of principal conductor Rui Pinheiro, joins Katia Guerreiro and Vitorino and Janita Salomé and Cantadores de Redondo for five shows in Lagoa (Carvoeiro and Ferragudo), Beja, Quarteira and Fuzeta.

The Festival kicks off on August 6, at Praia do Carvoeiro, Lagoa, with fado singer Katia Guerreiro, who will share the stage with OCS for a different night, where classical sounds will invite fado to a special ensemble . This show will also take place at Praça da República, in Beja, on the 14th, and at the Calçadão Nascente de Quarteira, on the 20th.

Katia Guerreiro needs no introduction, being recognized as an unavoidable value of Portuguese music nationally and internationally and one of the most brilliant voices in fado today.

katia warriorOn the 10th, the Zona Ribeirinha da Fuzeta receives the Orquestra Clássica do Sul for a “light” music concert, with a program that brings together a proposal for the top 10 of classical music works.

The opening of “The Marriage of Figaro” by Mozart, “The Grotto of Fingal” by Mendelssohn, “Vozes da Primavera” by Strauss II or the “Hungarian Dances” by Brahms are some of the pieces to be presented, as well as others by composers such as Handel, Bach, Beethoven, Rossini, Grieg and Elgar.

Praia da Angrinha, in Ferragudo, will be the stage, on the 13th, for the show “Clássico EnCante”, a format that was born in last year's festival and which continues to be a bet of the Orchestra.

The voices of Vitorino and Janita Salomé join those of Cantadores de Redondo and the Orquestra Clássica do Sul for a show that combines the polyphonic choral tradition of Cante Alentejano with traditional themes accompanied by an orchestra.

All concerts start at 22 pm and are free to enter.

The Caixa a Sul Festival is sponsored by Caixa Geral de Depósitos and has the support of the municipalities of Lagoa, Beja and Loulé and the União de Freguesias da Fuseta and Moncarapacho.
