The Al-Buhera Festival is back in Albufeira, from the 27th to the 31st of July, to showcase the best craftsmanship in the country.
Hundreds of tents and several colorful stalls will fill the Praça dos Pescadores with genuine pieces, in materials ranging from leather goods, to cork, objects in goldsmithery, copper, bronze, brass, basketwork, textiles, decorative arts, natural soaps, aromatherapy, embroidery , articles in Knitting hand or machine e crochet.
In addition to arts and crafts, the program bets on traditional gastronomy products and musical entertainment. Among the various artists who will be on the stage at Al-Buhera, the presence of José Cid, Viviane and Richie Campbel stand out.
This year, the event went beyond the borders of the region to receive artisans from other parts of the country, namely Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto, Alentejo, downtown, the metropolitan area of Lisbon and Madeira Island.
From Évora come copper, bronzes, skins and traditional rattles – ancient art distinguished by Unesco in December 2015 as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity – and from Redondo, pottery.
Algarve regional sweets, preserves, jams, liqueurs, honey and fleur de sel will do the honors of the house, this time vying for the attention of visitors with Pastéis de Tentúgal, convent sweets and regional Madeira products such as poncha and the bolo do caco, among other delicacies.
The event, which is already part of the main cultural and tourist itineraries in the country, runs from Wednesday to Sunday (inclusively), from 19:00 pm to 01:00 am, this year is making a strong commitment to the entertainment program.
On the 27th (Wednesday), Al-Buhera opens its doors with a golden key with a big name in the national music scene. José Cid promises to fill the stage with some of his greatest hits such as “Um grande, grande amor”, “Minha Música” and “Cabana ao Praia”, as well as the main songs of his most recent albums. The first part of the show features José Praia to warm up the atmosphere.
On the 28th (Thursday) the highlight goes to Viviane, with the Al-Buhera Group preceding the main event.
On the 29th (Friday) the Al-Mouraria are the first to step onto the stage, followed by the performance of the main artist Diogo Piçarra.
On the 30th (Saturday), the show promises to heat up with the hot rhythms of Jamaica in the voice of the greatest national Reggae singer Richie Campbel, following the performance of Beto Kalulu & os Compotas.
On the 31st (Sunday), the last day of Al-Buhera, Banda Alhada and Dengaz & Ahya Band will close the program.
