The Castro Marim municipal forestry intervention team will remain on the ground until the end of the summer season, announced today the Chamber of that municipality in the Northeast of Algarve.
The main objective is the development of actions within the scope of conservation and enhancement of the natural and forest heritage, namely prevention against forest fires.
The team, made up of six elements, is equipped with a 4×4 vehicle with a first intervention kit, with the aim of improving the surveillance and fire detection system, strengthening inspection and ensuring a quick and effective first action, having the entire municipality of Castro Marim as an area of activity.
With the same objective, protection of natural and forestry heritage and people and possessions, the Castro Marim City Council signed a protocol with the Algarve Firefighters Federation, within the scope of DECIF (Special Device for Combating Forest Fires), which aims to strengthen the fire brigades in the region with special fire fighting and support teams.
In total, these measures to prevent and combat forest fires represent a municipal investment of around 30.000 euros.
