They are made for walking on water, but often the powerful boats participating in the Grand Prix of Portugal of the Formula 1 World Championship in Powerboats can be seen flying. After years of interregnum, the international competition will return to the Arade Estuary, in Portimão, between the 29th and 31st of July.

The event includes “two unmissable sporting shows in the F4 and F1 modality”, according to the Portimão Chamber. In the two days of competition, some of the best drivers and machines of the sport will be in competition, in what will be the third of the nine races of the World Championship.

This will be the 13th time that Portimão hosts the Portuguese Formula 1 Grand Prix in Power Boating, although the last was in 2011.

The return, according to the Portimão Chamber, is part of «a long-term strategy of the international promoter of the sport and its sponsors» and benefited «from the interest shown by the Portimão Tourism Association to maintain a world-class event in Portugal» .

The Portimão Chamber supports the event, but «without this representing any financial investment by the municipality», since the contribution is only logistical.

This competition is organized by F1h20/UIM, with local organization of the Portimão Tourism Association and Portimão Municipality, with the local support of the Portimão Port Authority, the Sines and Algarve Port Administration, EMARP and Tourism do Algarve, with the technical support of the Portuguese Federation of Motornautics and the Clube Naval de Portimão.
