Diocese of AlgarveThe bishop of the Algarve will preside today at the Cathedral of Faro to the ceremony for the sending of about 100 young people from the diocese registered for World Youth Day (WYD) in Krakow, Poland, which takes place from 25 to 31 July.

The ceremony is scheduled for 21 pm, bringing together D. Manuel Quintas and 00 participants, divided into four groups.

Of this contingent, “49 young people come from the parishes of Ferragudo, Fuseta, Olhão, Quelfes and São Pedro de Faro (headquarters and community of São Paulo) and depart for Poland by bus on the 22nd of this month”, explains the diocesan newspaper, Folha do Domingo.

Two days later (July 24) more “22 young people from the parishes of Estoi, Ferreiras, Mexilhoeira Grande, Olhão, Pêra, Sé de Faro, Silves, Tavira and the set of parishes of Raposeira, Sagres and Vila do Bispo”.

In this group will also be present “nine elements from Terceira island, from the Diocese of Angra, in the Azores”.

Another 25 young people from the Algarve will travel to Krakow, “21 belonging to the Neocatechumenal Way, coming from the parishes of Conceição de Faro (12), headquarters in Portimão (5) and Monte Gordo (4)” and “four young people from the parishes of Raposeira, Sagres and Vila do Bispo”.

The delegation of the Diocese of Algarve present at WYD2016 will also include at least three priests, the priests Jesús Ejocha, Vasco Figueirinha and Pedro Manuel, the latter assistant of the Diocesan Secretariat for Youth Ministry.

In total, Portugal is the ninth most represented country at the Krakow event, with around 7 participants in the 2016 World Youth Days, which will also include the presence of Pope Francis.
