More than a dozen Alcoutenejo primary and secondary education students headed to Porto to experience university life for a week, under a protocol that the City Council of Alcoutim maintains with the University of Porto.
The young people were in the undefeated city from 3rd to 10th July and participated in the «Summer in Project 2016» action of the Junior University, an initiative that aims to «foster a taste for knowledge in different areas, familiarization with the university environment and contribute to choosing a vocational path”, according to the Alcoutim Council.
This year, the participating students chose activities such as “Letters, ink and graffiti” and “Top Secret – making of”, at the Faculdade de Belas Artes; “Olympic champions: joining physics and sport” and “At the rhythms of sport: air, land and sea”, at the Faculty of Sport; “Try to be a nurse. It's cool”, at the School of Nursing and “PSI – Peixes Under Investigation”, at the Faculty of Sciences.
«The experience enabled them to carry out university tasks, acquire practical knowledge related to the courses they attended and socialize with colleagues from other regions of the country», according to the municipality.
Accommodation and travel expenses for all students from the 9th to the 12th grade who embarked on this adventure were borne by the Alcoutim Council, which has already made this bet for 3 consecutive years.
«In addition to the days spent at the Junior University, the municipality also provided a complementary program of activities in the city of Porto. In this way, the students were able to know in detail, through a guided tour, the Casa da Música, having been explained to them some curiosities about the building's acoustics and features, as well as the historic center of the undefeated city. Young alcoutenejos also enjoyed a boat trip on the Douro river», added the alcouteneja municipality.
