Fisherman's Day posterOn the 18th of June, the Vila Nova de Milfontes Channel Portinho receives the 14th edition of the Fisherman's Day Celebration in the municipality of Odemira. The initiative aims to promote interaction between the fishing community and reflect on the difficulties and potential of the sector.

The party starts at 12:30 pm and will bring together the fishing community of the four fishing ports of the municipality of Odemira: Portinho do Canal (Vila Nova de Milfontes), Lapa de Pombas (Longueira/Almograve parish), Entrada da Barca and Azenha do Mar (S. Teotónio parish).

The program includes a convivial lunch, where seafood will be highlighted, musical entertainment with local artists and a moment for interventions and debate on the reality of fishing activity in the municipality.

The Chamber of Odemira explains that «the municipality of Odemira currently has around 100 fishermen in activity, divided into four small ports, where fishing is done by hand».

The initiative is promoted by the Municipality of Odemira, Association of Shipowners of Artisanal Fishing and of the Siege of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, Parish Council of Vila Nova de Milfontes and Fishermen of Portinho do Canal. It also has the support of the Parish Councils of Longueira/Almograve and S. Teotónio, Administration of the Port of Sines, Docapesca and the Captaincy of the Port of Sines.
