Ana Sofia Antunes, Secretary of State for the Inclusion of People with Disabilities, flew, last Wednesday, June 8, the Accessible Beach Flag, in Vilamoura. This bathing area recently received the country's “Beach+Accessible” award.
Ana Sofia Antunes came to the Algarve «to be present at this symbolic ceremony, which emphasizes “beaches accessible to everyone”. Beaches such as Vilamoura that integrate all the conditions that guarantee easy pedestrian access, organized parking and spaces reserved for vehicles that transport people with reduced mobility, level access to the sand/bathing area through ramps, with the lowest possible inclination, walkways to the area with awnings and other equipment and as close as possible to the water and that have adapted sanitary installations», explains the City Council of Loulé.
On the same day, the Loulé municipal executive toured the ten beaches of the county to hoist the environmental quality and accessibility awards.
The Loulé municipality adds that «as part of an application by the Municipality to the “Healthy Beach” project, the Vodafone Foundation assigned an amphibious chair (tiralô) to the beach at Vale do Lobo, which replaces the one that used to exist here. Vilamoura also received one of these chairs as one of the “Beach+Accessible” awards. Currently, there is also this equipment that allows people with reduced mobility to be moved to the water on the beaches of Quarteira, Loulé Velho, Ancão and Garrão Nascente».
This year, the entire coast of the Municipality of Loulé received the Blue Flag award. The Golden Flag was hoisted on nine of the beaches in Loulé, and there are seven bathing areas with the distinction of Accessible Beach.
