2016-169-swimming-raquel-correia-01Swimmer Raquel Correia, athlete of the Cultural and Sports Association of Colégio Bernardette Romeira (ACDCBR), in Olhão, was three-time national champion of adapted swimming in 50m Mariposa, 100m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke, having beaten national records in Mariposa and Back.

The new maximum set by the swimmer, who lives in Olhão, is 36:48 in the 50m Mariposa and 03:43.76 in the 200m backstroke.

The Chamber of Olhão explains that «Raquel Correia won these titles in the National Championships that took place in Póvoa de Varzim, having competed with 160 other swimmers with different degrees of disability, with Raquel's (S15) being deaf».

The young university student trains daily at the Municipal Swimming Pools in Olhão, trained by Nuno Caetano.

The swimmer returns to compete next weekend, in Loulé, where the Regional Championships will take place. According to the Municipality of Olhão, Raquel Correia's objective is to lower the records she has set pointing to participation in the European Adapted Swimming Championships.
