in the market of Faro, vegetables, bread, flowers, fresh fish are sold… but what if people were sold? This is the starting point for a video made in ETIC_Algarve, which alerts to the problem of human trafficking. It started out as a school project, but the final product promises to raise awareness of a reality that is closer than you think.

Filipe Pires, Hugo Figueiredo, João Carvalho, João Fonseca, Marcos Clímaco and Sabrina Ildefonso were the trainees of the Direction course who put into practice the knowledge acquired at ETIC_Algarve for a good cause.

Filipe Pires explained to Sul Informação how did this idea come about, which has already led to the creation of an awareness campaign.

"We remembered one of the themes that is most in vogue these days, which is the theme of refugees, and from there, we came to human trafficking, which is related, because many of these people end up exploited in the workplace." account.

But, for Filipe Pires and for the other students in the group, human trafficking is more than that and is present much closer than one thinks. “Today, human trafficking is not just about “stealing” people. We come across people in the street who suffer from this, being exploited in the labor market, working twelve hours, being underpaid…».

In preparing the video, which has three versions, «we tried to hide the Market of Faro. We thought of a person entering, looking suspicious, and at a certain point, you realize he's in a people's market. It is this shock that we intend to pass”.

Although this is a school work, the aim is to go further and show it to as many people as possible. “This is school work and that's the first purpose, to do a good job. But we want to go further and we would like this video to appear on television. That it was seen by other people, because we ended up embracing this cause. We liked the final product and I admit that seeing it gave me goose bumps. Hopefully someone takes the video and puts it on TV. We have already contacted RTP, which said they do not have time to insert it, but we will insist a bit», he revealed.

The film was shot during the month of April and the Mercado de Faro became the “Human Market” for one night. «We started recording at 20:00, and it went on until three in the morning», tells Filipe Pires.

According to ETIC_Algarve, this video is not “just a mere curricular exercise, the videos now presented are intended to alert to a scourge that takes on global contours, as it occurs not only in less developed countries, but also in so-called civilized countries, and demonstrate that each one of us has a role to play in the definition and construction of the society in which we live, all it takes is a simple choice: indifference or action".

The film has three versions: a 1-minute 30-second version (above), a 1-minute version, and a shorter 30-second version.
