Lagos will assume the “Commitment for the Bicycle”. Joining this national initiative aims to promote mobility by bicycle in the county.

The Câmara de Lagos explains that «participation in the project stems from a proposal by AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community which, at a meeting where the University of Aveiro was also present, presented the project and made known the balance of other initiatives, namely the European Cycling Challenge, Cycling & Walking Program and Plan for Sustainable Urban Mobility».

The Bicycle Commitment focuses on “the need to raise awareness of climate change, the reduction of CO2 emissions and dependence on fossil fuels; the need to ensure accessibility for all and road safety”.

This project is recognized by the European Cyclists Federation (ECF) and the European Commission, coordinated by the Technological Platform for Bicycle and Smooth Mobility and the University of Aveiro, and has the participation of national experts, institutions and public entities, universities, industry , the tourism sector and several municipalities that share the best national experiences in promoting bicycle mobility.

The municipality of Lacobrigense adds that "adhering to the Commitment by Bicycle is free of charge" and that it will contribute to "improving the municipality's image at national level, with regard to good practices in bicycle mobility".
