The Hortas and Presunto fairs promise to bring entertainment and lots of people to Monchique during the month of July. The Feira das Hortas will take place on the 2nd and 3rd, in Largo dos Chorões, while the Feira do Presunto – after an impasse that almost led to its cancellation – is scheduled for the 23rd and 24th, in the space of the former sawmill .
The fair that animates the mountain village this weekend will have 16 participants and traveling entertainment. «It's a nice and nice fair», explains the deputy mayor of Monchique Luís Grade to the Sul Informação.
According to the official, in addition to vegetables, "there will be handicrafts alluding to what will be there and small animals such as rabbits, patacas or chickens will be sold".
Of greater dimension, is the Ham Fair that, this year, was at risk of not happening. “There was actually a risk of not taking place, because the place where the fair usually takes place raises a lot of dust, but we carried out leveling and filling work on the land and the situation was resolved”.
The problem of the lack of spaces for holding this type of event has been highlighted several times by the councilor, but Luís Grade hopes that this will be the last year in which the issue arises.
«We are in negotiations to buy this space from the old sawmill and, very soon, we are going to close the process for the construction of the much sought-after Pavilhão Multiusos. By the year, we hope to have the process already very advanced or even the built space», revealed the mayor.
At the Feira do Presunto, which will have around 40 exhibitors, it will not only be mountain cuisine and handicrafts that attract visitors to Monchique, as there is also a strong focus on entertainment, with concerts by Némanus, on Saturday, and Os Azeitonas , on Sunday.
“In general, we repeat the formula of previous years. There will also be a donkey ride company to liven up the space, which is usually the delight of the kids», concludes Luís Grade.
