francisco serraFrancisco Serra will be officially appointed tomorrow, in the Council of Ministers, as chairman of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission, succeeding David Santos, whose resignation was announced on 2 July.

In a statement published yesterday, at 19:35 pm, on the Government Portal, the Ministry of Planning and Infrastructure says that, «after the legal deadlines of the prior hearing with a view to exoneration of the Presidents of the Regional Coordination and Development Commissions of the Algarve and the North, the Government understands that the assumptions that gave rise to those procedures are still valid».

"As a result, the Government decided to start the administrative process with a view to filling those positions", adds the statement.

The so far president of the CCDRA, David Santos, was exonerated by the Government in an announced decision, also in a statement, by the Ministry of Planning on 2 June. On the same date, the president of CCDR Norte was also dismissed.

Francisco Serra holds a PhD in Economics and Business Administration, as well as a coordinating professor in the area of ​​Social and Legal Sciences at the School of Management, Hotel and Tourism, of the University of Algarve, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Hospital de Faro, adds the statement published yesterday by the Ministry supervised by Pedro Marques.

In turn, the presidency of the Northern Regional Coordination Commission will be assured by Fernando Freire de Sousa, economist and conductor of several disciplines at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto. He was Secretary of State for Competitiveness and Internationalization of the XIII Constitutional Government and President of the Fund for the Internationalization of Portuguese Companies.
