According to the organization, «the light wind marked the first day of the Optimist World Cup in Vilamoura waters, blowing from the Southeast between 5 and 8 knots of intensity» but, even so, the two regattas planned were carried out.

The fleet of 255 sailors from 59 countries was divided into four groups and the Swiss Max Wallenberg took the lead after being 2nd and 1st. Germans Roko Mohr and Adrian Surroca are 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

Guilherme Cavaco, from the Clube Naval de Faro, was 2nd in the first race and 9th in the second, which allowed him to classify in 14th place.

The other Algarve player in the competition, Beatriz Gago, from Clube Naval de Portimão, occupies the first position in the women's sector and is 30th in the general classification.

Two more regattas are scheduled for today, starting at 12:00.
