From the 20th to the 30th of June, the Vila Real de Santo António Sports Complex hosts the Guadiana Cup. This Iberian youth football tournament will feature more than 4 athletes from 276 youth football teams and associations in the 11, 7 and 5 football modalities.
Sporting, Atlético de Madrid, Benfica, Seville, Futebol Clube do Porto, Betis, Sporting de Braga and Vitória de Guimarães are some of the Portuguese and Spanish teams that will compete on the field for victory in the tournament. According to the organization, the competition "fosters interaction between young athletes, promotes youth football and encourages the exchange of relationships between various associations and sports teams."
Will be used in the tournament the Sports Complex of Vila Real de Santo António, with four fields, the Lusitano FC field of Vila Real de Santo António, the field of Monte Gordo and two courses in Spain (Ayamonte). A total of 8 football fields out of 11 which, in the period from 20th to 25th of June, are transformed into seven football fields 7 and two football fields of 5.
"Since 2013, The Guadiana Cup the number of participants, both Portuguese and Spanish, has already doubled and in the future we want to have even more athletes present. This year, due to the increase of teams (224 in 2015 and 276 final number of teams for this year) and levels (going from 9 levels to 11 levels), there was great concern with the quality of the event in order to offer the best conditions for players and visitors» refers João Morais, co-organizer of A Copa Guadiana.
"The times for the games were scheduled to avoid the hot weather, we increased the duration of the event to 10 days and extended the number of fields in use to include two fields in Spain (Ayamonte)", adds the official.
According to Nuno Silva, co-responsible for organizing A Copa do Guadiana, “this is one of the highlights of the season for these young athletes. All the necessary infrastructures are created for the realization of great football moments, bringing together the best players of today from different levels of youth football».
The President of the Chamber of VRSA Luis Gomes considers The Copa do Guadiana “one of the most important sporting events in the region, it affects the city and the municipality. It represents a great impulse and effort in favor of the economy of the region».
