Mario Centeno_2The Algarvian Mário Centeno, Minister of Finance, born in Vila Real de Santo António and «holder of a successful international career», is one of the personalities honored by the Municipality, on the 13th of May, the city's public holiday.

In addition to the current minister, João Vasques, former player and founder of the Lusitano Futebol Clube schools, will also be honored, as well as the authors of the Gigante VRSA Nativity Scene.

The ceremony is included in the usual Solemn Commemorative Session of the VRSA Foundation, which starts at 10:30 am, at Centro Cultural António Aleixo. During the ceremony, the various personalities who stood out for their merit or contributions to the county will be distinguished and merit diplomas will be awarded to the best students and employees with 20 years of service.

But the celebrations for the 242nd anniversary of the foundation of Vila Real include a cultural and musical program, which has even started on the 8th, with the charity show «Cantar de Amigos», at 16:30 pm at the Centro Cultural António Aleixo.

VRSA_Historical and Ethnographic CortejoAs of today, the 12th, Praça Marquês de Pombal will host the Historic Fair, between 10:00 am and 23:00 pm, and go back to the Age of Enlightenment, with a set of period recreations and the sale of handicrafts and typical products.

On the afternoon of the municipal holiday, the 13th, after the solemn morning session, from 18 pm, the Historical and Ethnographic Parade begins, starting at the Municipal Historical Archive, which will tour the main streets of VRSA and end at Praça Marquês de Pombal .

The initiative spans four centuries of history and provides a historical portrait from the foundation of the village to the present day, when the online project VRSA TV will be presented.

In the evening, at 22 pm, Praça Marquês de Pombal hosts a fado show with César Matoso and Sara Paixão.

On May 14, at 16 pm, at Campo Francisco Gomes Socorro, the triangular football tournament will take place, with the participation of veteran teams Lusitano FC, Monte Agraço FC and Associação Desportiva e Cultural de Tunis.

Also on the 14th, the Philharmonic Band Festival takes place, starting at 21 pm, in Praça Marquês de Pombal. Also at night, at 30 pm, the António Aleixo Cultural Center hosts the Festival «Arte sem Fronteiras 21», with a dance show by the company Splash.

The celebrations end on May 20th, with a concert by Susana Travassos, at 21 pm, at Centro Cultural António Aleixo.
