crime-pixFifteen people, with family and friendship connections, and mostly residing in the Portimão area, were accused by the Public Prosecutor's Office for crimes of aggravated robbery and aggravated theft committed in different parts of the Algarve, between 'mid 2014 and May 2015'.

As announced by the MP in a statement, the defendants, nine women and six men, "would look, above all, for houses in isolated areas of the Algarve interior and victims over 75 years of age."

The indictment brought against the group also argues that the alleged robbers "would enter the houses through the windows or get the victims to open the front door for them, telling them they had clothes to sell or asking them to drink water" .

“In some cases, women would approach elderly people with the promise of sexual favors. They may have violently attacked and threatened some victims. Afterwards, they would remove the valuables they found and quickly fled in a vehicle that was waiting for them near the places», added the Public Ministry.

The defendants are suspected of having committed, in close to a year, "about two dozen crimes".

The group was eventually caught following an investigation that began “operatingly by the systematization and analysis of information carried out by the GNR of Faro, the entity that assisted the Public Ministry in this investigation». The inquiry was directed by the MP of the 2nd section of Faro of the DIAP.
