blow_ballaoIn every four crimes committed in the Algarve, one is driving with alcohol. This is one of the conclusions that can be drawn from those revealed by the Public Ministry of Faro, relating to criminal activity in the region during the first quarter of 2016.

In second place in the list of the most committed crimes comes driving without a license and, in third place, that of offense to physical integrity. Theft ranks fourth and the crime of disobedience is the fifth most committed in the region. In total, these five crimes represent about half of the offenses registered by the Public Ministry in the Algarve.

In the first three months of the year, around 6000 inquiries were registered by the Public Ministry, which resulted in 1300 indictments. However, the total number of crimes amounts to about 2, since around 600 cases have not gone to trial, despite "there are sufficient evidence of crime", "by imposing certain conditions on the accused".

Faro (20%), Portimão (19%), Albufeira (15%) and Loulé (15%) are the counties with the most registered inquiries, but in terms of deducted accusations, the order differs and Albufeira occupies first place with 23%.

From January to March there were approximately two thousand criminal trial hearings in the Algarve and 700 sentences were handed down, of which only 19% were acquittal.

Most crimes were registered by the GNR. The PSP registered about a quarter and the Public Prosecutor's Office registered close to 18%.
