“Destination Algarve – Tourism vs Petroleum” is the theme of a debate that will take place this Friday, May 13th, from 11 am, in the Auditorium of the Portimão Museum.
This is an initiative by José Inácio Faria, a member of the Partido da Terra Movement, which will also feature British MEP Catherine Bearder, and intends to be a debate "without prejudice or taboos and with the participation of all".
The “question of oil extraction on the Algarve coast and its negative and positive repercussions for the economy, the environment and the populations” will be discussed.
Representatives of Environmental NGOs, such as those represented in the Algarve Free Oil Platform (PALP) or the Algarve Surf and Marine Activities Association (ASMAA), civil society associations, municipalities, business associations, Regulatory Entities and representatives were also invited to the debate. of the oil extraction industry.
Among the mayors, the presence of the socialists José Amarelinho and Vítor Guerreiro, presidents of the Chambers of Aljezur and São Brás de Alportel, who have been the most challenging of hydrocarbons in the Algarve, as well as Rogério Bacalhau (PSD), president of the Chamber of Faro, and José Pedro Caçorino (CDS), councilor of Portimão. Both Bacalhau and Caçorino were elected in coalitions of which the MPT is part.
