Protocols Scholarships Merit Masters FE_1Supporting a good student to finish their Master's course, paying a year's tuition fees, can be seen by many as a nice gesture that represents an expense.

But for the six companies that signed protocols with this Faculty of Economics (FE) of the University of Algarve, granting merit scholarships and guaranteeing internships to masters is an investment for the future. Your future.

This Wednesday, representatives of the companies Ativtoc - Accounting and Management", "Algardata - Informatics Systems", "Be Corporate - Investment Projects", "EWP - Management and Accounting Consulting", "Hospital de São Gonçalo/Grupo Imag" and «Neomarca – Innovation and Development» were in the campus de Gambelas from UAlg and left with a deep relationship with the Faculty of Economics and, of course, with their students.

The testimony of the different companies present makes it clear that this approach can be very important for an organization.

“Today's business world is a world of talent. Companies do not discuss anything other than talent. They say that consumers buy brands, but behind them are people. And one of the privileged sources of talent is the universities», framed Paulo Lopes, from EWP, where three former students of this school already work.

An idea reinforced by Dário Gonçalves, from Be Corporate. «With this association with the FE, we intend to get closer to the university and its human capital, in order to retain talent and incorporate them into companies. We already have two people in the company who are attending the Masters in Finance and Management and the next ones will also be from these areas».

The “acquisition” of new, highly qualified elements for the work team is of crucial importance in a company like Neomarca, which works in innovation. «This partnership with the Faculty of Economics has a lot to do with our objective of contributing to the investigation of new solutions, in this case, linked to Management and Economics. We also intend, with this agreement, to identify people who can work with us», said Paulo Pereira, from the company.

A common denominator to the testimonies collected by the Sul Informação it is the will of different companies to bet on the students who will support and make them a active, in the future. This is true for students of Finance and Management, but also from other areas.

In the case of Hospital de São Gonçalo, the focus is on the Master's Degree in Health Services Management and extends a collaboration that came from behind. «The Imag group has been developing several agreements with the University of Algarve, not only with the Faculty of Economics, but also with the Superior School of Health and with the Medicine Course», according to José Carlos Queimado.

"We want to have this collaboration on a very regular basis, not only in the area of scholarships and in the reception of students for internships, but also in the area of research", added the Business unit manager of the Hospital de São Gonçalo.

Algardata also has a prior relationship with the University of Algarve and even already supports the institution's outstanding students. The Algarve company is one of those that joined, since the first edition, to the UAlg Excellence Scholarship program, but that didn't stop her from opening (further) her purse strings and supporting another student at this academy.

“We have several employees who graduated here, at the Faculty of Economics, and we want to maintain this link, with the award of this scholarship. On the other hand, we increasingly need specialized personnel, and the way to ensure that there is such specialization is by supporting postgraduate education», said João Correia.

All companies that signed protocols have people who graduated from UAlg on their staff, so they know very well what they can count on. Even because some of them lived this experience first hand, since they studied at UAlg.

João Correia and Paulo Pereira are examples of former students who returned “home” this Wednesday, but they are not the only ones. In the case of Ativtoc, the two founders of the company are alumni from the Algarve academy and insist on betting on their “colleagues”.

“We started our project in 2011 and we have already incorporated six people trained at UAlg. They did an internship and continued with us. We hope to create a synergy between our company and the university, which can be reflected in an improvement of our service», according to Ricardo Batalha, one of the company's creators.

On the part of the direction of the Faculty of Economics, there was the wish that these scholarships are just another moment, of a much broader history. “For us, this is a first element of a cooperation that we want to go deeper. We want to go much further in this relationship with companies», assured the director of FE Rui Nunes.

Luís Coelho, director of the postgraduate department of this organic unit, highlighted the achievement of «one of the main desires of the FE, which is to have the region with us» and left a guarantee: «we are here for the students, who are the best of this faculty have».

Wednesday's ceremony also served to deliver scholarship certificates to the best students from the different master's courses for the current academic year.
