Between the 16th and 22nd of May, various activities will be promoted that aim to make known the local museums and the heritage that they close.

The program is launched on the 16th, with two lectures on the theme "The Algarve and the first Globalization", at 21 pm in the Auditorium of the Paços do Concelho Séc. XXI Building.

Francisco Contente Domingues, from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon, is the first guest and will speak on «The role of Portugal and the Algarve in the First Globalization».

Then, Rui Pareira, from the Regional Directorate of Culture, will address the theme "Places of the 1st Globalization", which inspired an Algarve's candidacy for World Heritage. The joint proposal, led by the Algarve Tourism Region and involving several entities in the region, aims at recognizing the Algarve landscape as a cultural and historical landscape, cradle of the first Globalization. This session will be attended by the Regional Director of Culture Alexandra Gonçalves.

On the 18th, when this anniversary is marked, admission will be free of charge to the Municipal Museum and the Fort of Ponta da Bandeira. On the 21st, at 17:30 pm, the exhibition «Poetic Continentalism – Findings» by Timo Dillner is inaugurated at the Dr. José Formosinho Municipal Museum and promoted the concert «Baroque em Talha Dourada», by the Academy of Music of Lagos, at the Igreja de Santo António, at 21 pm.

In 2016, the general theme of International Museum Day is “Museums and Cultural Landscapes”.
