islamic heritageThe Free Course in Algarve History, with the theme “Islamic Heritage”, will return to the University of Algarve, but this time in June, from the 2nd to the 30th, and not the following month, as usual.

Cláudio Torres, director of the Mértola Archaeological Field, or Filomena Barros, researcher and professor at the University of Évora, are two of the experts invited to teach the course, as the nine sessions will this year have the theme “Islamic Heritage”.

«In addition to the interest it usually arouses, this is also a very relevant topic in the context of the Algarve's history», emphasize the organizers.

Another highlight in the scope of the program are the two scheduled visits to the cities of Silves and Tavira, both of which bear important witness to the Islamic presence in the Algarve.

Most sessions of the Free Course in Algarve History will take place in Amphitheater A of the Pedagogical Complex on the Gambelas campus, every Tuesday and Thursday of June, with the exception of the last session, which will be on Wednesday (2 – 29), between 18:00 and 20:00.

Regarding visits (on the 21st and 29th), the meeting point will be at 17:00 in front of the FCHS building, for travel by UAlg bus, or, alternatively, at 18:00 in the places to be visited. The complete program with all details can be found here.

This course is open to the participation of all those interested in the topics under discussion and grants a certificate of participation. For more information or registration, please contact the Secretariat Services of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences by telephone 289 800 914 or email [email protected].

The Free Course is organized by the Center for Studies in Heritage, Landscape and Construction (CEPAC/UAlg) and by the Department of Arts and Humanities of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Algarve.
