Bachus Confraternity promotes another Great Wine Show in Portugal in Albufeira

It will take four days to taste more than a thousand wines, from the best that is made from Trás-os-Montes to the Algarve. It's the proposal for the eighth edition of the Grande Mostra de Vinhos de Portugal taking place at the Espaço Multiusos in Albufeira.

The event, promoted by the Confraria Bacchus de Albufeira, has free entry. To taste the wines on display, just buy, for three euros, a glass depicting the event.

The 8th Great Wine Show of Portugal, in addition to the usual wine tasting, has several proposals. Highlight for the show cookings tribute diaries to the Mediterranean diet harmonized with different wines, workshops, commented tastings, cocktails with wine, decanting the bottle over fire and saber, and tasting of cheeses, sausages and regional sweets that allow the public an unforgettable journey full of flavors allied to the protagonist of the event: wine.

Another reason of interest for industry professionals, oenophiles and the general public is also the Bacchus Wine Contest 2016 – recognized by the Vine and Wine Institute – with awarding gold, silver and bronze medals in the various categories in competition (reds , white, rosé and fortified), whose prizes will be announced at the opening dinner of the event, whetting the appetite for the following days.

As part of the program, Bacchus also holds, and for the first time, a forum on “Wine and Vine in the Algarve – Perspectives, Paths and Routes”, scheduled for the last day, May 9th, at 10 am, at Salão Nobre of Albufeira Town Hall.

bachus brotherhood 2The 8th Grande Mostra de Vinhos de Portugal has the support of Albufeira Town Hall, Algarve Tourism, Albufeira Promotion Agency, Algarve Hotel and Tourism Schools Group, Albufeira Schools Group, Agricultural Credit Bank, Delta Cafés , Albusado, among other sponsorships.

With the recent enthronement of 15 new confreres, the Confraternity of Bacchus de Albufeira currently has 89 members (20 percent are women), in the categories of effective confreres, Mestre confreres (connected to the wine sector) and Honor (legal persons) .

In 2009, and with only 36 members, the Confraria bet on an ambitious project: to hold the 1st Grande Mostra de Vinhos de Portugal, in Albufeira, with the participation of 42 producers from the various Portuguese wine regions.

Eight years later, the number of professionals present at the event has doubled, with this year's edition reaching a record number of registered producers.

Over its nine years of existence, the Confraria Bacchus has also been associated with humanitarian causes. It recently organized the 2nd Solidarity Walk in Paderne, exceeding expectations, both in terms of the number of participants (more than 400) and in the donations offered, thus fulfilling its solidary mission.
