More space, more time, more initiatives and more variety. The Algarve Design Meeting is different, in 2016, compared to the first five editions, it gained scale and «owes nothing to other major national events in this area, even surpassing some», believes António Lacerda, one of the main promoters of the event.

This initiative to promote design, both as a discipline and also as an artistic expression, started on Saturday and will animate Faro until next Sunday, May 29th. The nerve center of the 6th edition is the former Fábrica da Cerveja, in Vila-Adentro de Faro, which, among many other activities, is hosting exhibitions «by world-renowned designers». The open-air cinema sessions have also started, on themes related to design, «some of them unprecedented in Portugal».

For that, it was necessary to intervene in this «space that was unoccupied, making it functional», according to the professor at the Superior School of Education and Communication of the University of Algarve, entity that organizes the event.

António Lacerda also highlighted the third edition of Videomapping Festival, which Largo da Sé receives on Saturday. This has been one of the highlights of the most recent editions of the Algarve Design Meeting and, as with the event itself, it is also evolving. «We are going to project works by students from UAlg and the University of Tomas Bata, in the Czech Republic, as last year, but also by students from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon.

Algarve Design Meeting 2016_2«This is a unique event in Portugal. There are other initiatives for videomapping, but they are all private. In our case, they are all non-commercial work», he highlighted.

Maybe that's why there are gyms across the country wanting to participate. «This year, the University of Aveiro was about to join, but it was not possible, and should participate next year. The University of Porto has also shown interest in joining, as of next year. We want to create here a network open to all universities», according to António Lacerda, who is also the director and founder of the National Association of Designers.

Until the walls of the Igreja da Sé are illuminated by the Video mapping, there is a lot of design to see at Fábrica da Cerveja. And in extended hours! “We are open every day from 10:00 am until midnight so that people can visit us. And we have had a lot of public, including tourists visiting the city», he revealed.

Anyone who wants to know everything that will happen can consult the extensive program of the 6th Algarve Design Meeting, on the initiative's website, where information about the different exhibitions, the seminars that will take place and the movie sessions that take place every night, as well as about their protagonists, is concentrated.
