Albufeira ERAS Training_3A group of 16 employees of Albufeira City Council received training in the area of ​​Civil Protection, in order to be able to provide a more effective response to an eventual catastrophe.

The training action in Situation Recognition and Assessment Teams (ERAS) took place at the Lídia Jorge Municipal Library, over five days, and culminated in an earthquake simulation with the aim of testing the teams' response to possible catastrophe scenarios.

This simulacrum «had as scenarios accidents with several victims, buildings collapsing and buried, access roads blocked and fuel spillage followed by fire». «The exercise consisted in identifying each of the scenarios through images and reporting all the occurrences to the Municipal Command Post, installed in the Municipal Civil Protection Service (SMPC)», according to the City Council of Albufeira.

Albufeira ERAS Training_7An exercise that meets the attributions of the ERAS, which exist to act in the event of a serious accident or catastrophe, providing the Command Post with indispensable information for the decision-making process.

"The main mission of these teams is to travel through the Zone of Intervention (ZI) and collect specific information on the consequences of the accident, such as the places with the greatest damage to infrastructure, with the largest number of victims, affected roads, among others, facilitating intervention protection and relief forces, in order to restore normalcy», according to the municipality.

"This is another step in the construction of solutions that allow to prevent, protect and intervene properly in situations of serious accident and catastrophe or their imminence, with motivated, well-trained and capable multidisciplinary teams to respond to the challenges of civil protection in the defense of people , of goods and the environment”, stressed Ana Vidigal, councilor for Civil Protection of the Municipality of Albufeira.

For the mayor of Albufeira, this is «a strong investment by the municipality in reducing risk and promoting an increasingly resilient community».

The training given on the 18th, 19th, 27th, 28th and 29th of April was promoted by the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Albufeira and had the collaboration of the Albufeira Voluntary Firefighters, GNR and INEM.
