Autism_CMOOlhão will join the cause of awareness for Autism, this Saturday, and illuminate the Paços do Concelho building in blue, the color that symbolizes the disease, as it has a much higher incidence rate among male children.

April 2nd is World Autism Awareness Day. This event serves "to help alert the world population to the problem of autism, a disorder in brain development that affects about 70 million people worldwide," according to the Chamber of Olhão.

This date was created by the United Nations on December 18, 2007, in order to alert societies and governments to this disease, helping to break down prejudices.

Autism belongs to a group of disorders of brain development known as Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Symptoms are phobias, aggression, learning difficulties, or relationship difficulties, for example.
