The Municipality of Portimão «could not stop spending on personnel, which grew by 0,7 million euros, and expenditure on the provision of External Services, which grew by 0,5 million euros», denounced the coalition «Servir Portimão», in a statement that seeks to contest the announcement made last week, by the mayor, Isilda Gomes, of the improvement in the results of the municipality, in 2015.
According to the 2015 Annual Report, approved at a Council meeting last Friday, April 22, and which will now be debated and eventually approved at the next session of the Municipal Assembly of Portimão, scheduled for the 28th (Thursday) , the municipality of Portimo registered, last year, positive results in the order of 8,1 million euros, which the City Council has already said is “the best financial result ever for the Portimão municipality”.
But the coalition led by opposition councilor José Pedro Caçorino takes the opposite view and argues that «the so-called “extraordinary results” presented by the Municipality, result from the increase of 2,2 million euros in additional taxes (basically, IMI at the maximum rate, paid by Portimonenses and local companies) and the reduction of 1 million euros in social support».
There are also «9,5 million euros from Portimão Urbis», which, argues «Servir Portimão», should have «been provisioned», that is, they should be part of the Chamber's accounts and do not, «because this company is if in liquidation and has a negative value, contrary to what the Clearinghouse presents in its assets».
The main opposition force also considers that the results presented by the socialist executive should include "2,5 million negative results from Portimão Urbis for 2015".
If the accounts of "Servir Portimão" are correct, "12 million euros of Portimão Urbis alone" would be "deducted from the results of the Municipality. Which makes all the difference».
Referring to statements by the president of the Chamber Isilda Gomes to the Sul Informação, the coalition states that «when it is said that the Municipality's financial situation recovers based on a recovery in the real estate market, it should be borne in mind that the much-vaunted continuous increase in IMI revenue will not be effective, so more than merely highlighting values circumstantial, the Executive should present ways to compensate for the more than predictable decrease in the revenue of that tax».
The coalition, which brings together CDS, MPT and independents linked to the PSD or without any party connection, ends its statement assuring that «the Portimonenses may be victims, in the next 25 years, of the successive errors of PS governance in the Municipality of Portimão . It is therefore appropriate to ask: who pays for the so-called “out of the red” in this way?”.
The Municipal Assembly, which will take place on the night of next Thursday, the 28th, will precisely debate the 2015 Management Report of the Portimão Chamber.
