Women's Cup of Portugal - Photo João FonsecaTwo cyclists from the Algarve team 5Quinas/Municipality of Albufeira, Liliana Jesus and Celina Carpinteiro, ranked 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the first race of the Women's Portugal Cup in the elite category, held this Sunday at Areia, in Cascais.

The first race was won by Daniela Reis (DN17 Poitou Charentes), who left Liliana Jesus in 1m46s and Celina Carpinteiro in 4m46s.

The national champion, who commands the French Cup in 2016, was clearly the strongest in the 60,3 kilometers of this Sunday's race, which ended in 1h44m43s.

The Algarve women's team also shone in Veteranas. Elisete Sousa (5Quinas/Municipality of Albufeira) won out among the veterans, with Filomena Paulo (Anipura/CACB/Comp. Serra) in second place, at 51 seconds, and Orieta Oliveira (5Quinas/Municipality of Albufeira), at 1m19s, at the bottom of the podium.

Maria Martins won the junior race, despite being in her first season in that category. She beat Beatriz Lopes (Joaquim Agostinho Femininas/UDO) for 3 seconds and Soraia Silva (Bairrada) for 20 seconds, who accompanied her on the podium.

Nádia Henrique (Mato Cheirinho/Liberty Seguros/Vila Galé) dominated the cadet race, finishing 19 seconds before Jessica Ribeiro (Moreira Congelados/Feira/Andrade Bicycles) and 22 seconds ahead of Joana Pereira (CAJ Raposa).
