This competition, which took place in the municipality of Oeiras, brought together the 30 best national students in each category.

In addition to the gold medal, this student will also have the opportunity to participate in the Delphi internships, promoted by the Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra, where he will prepare for other competitions, including the selection phase for the International Olympics, which will take place in July, in Hong Kong.

At the end of the competition, Wanghao Zhu was very satisfied: “I was quite surprised because the second phase didn't go well and so I didn't expect to qualify for the finals. But when I received an e-mail from the organization of the Portuguese Mathematical Olympics congratulating me for being qualified for the national stage, I was very happy. It was one of the best news of my life», said the young man.

The Portuguese Mathematics Olympiads (OPM), organized annually by the Portuguese Society of Mathematics, are a contest of Mathematics problems, aimed at students of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic education and also those attending secondary education, which aims to encourage and develop a taste for Mathematics.
