Musicians Mário Delgado (guitar) and Andrzej Olejniczak (saxophone) are the guests of weight of the two concerts that the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve (OJA) will give in Faro, on the 25th of March, and in Lagoa, on the 26th.
This is a different program, «giving the Algarve a unique opportunity to watch the performance of renowned musicians, showing the best that is done nationally and internationally in the field of jazz music».
This cycle of concerts has the Jazz-Rock & Funk theme and is scheduled for this Friday, the 25th, at 22 pm, at Club Farense, a centenary cultural and recreational association, located in Rua de Santo António, in Faro. This concert has the support of the Government of Portugal – Secretary of State for Culture and DGArtes – General Directorate of Arts.
On Saturday, at 21:30 pm, it will be time for a new concert, but this time at the Municipal Auditorium of Lagoa, with the support of the Municipality of Lagoa.
In these concerts, the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve will interpret a Jazz Rock & Funk repertoire, in typical fusions from the 70s. Birdland (Weather Report), Central Park North (Thad Jones) A (Maynard Ferguson) TheChicken (Jaco Pastorious), among many others, will thus give the energy so typical of that style.
The Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve was founded in 2004 and has an artistic residency in the municipality of Lagoa. Since then, it has been directed by trumpeter Hugo Alves, and is currently made up of 17 musicians.
Mário Delgado is one of the guitarists with the biggest national name, an excellent musician, rooted in Jazz, but transcending many styles. From “Philactera” to his group led on, which pays tribute to the famous Led Zeppelin, Mário also has many other collaborations with great names in Portuguese music: Tim, José Mário Branco, among many others.
Andrzej Olejniczak is one of the greatest Polish saxophonists today and in the European jazz scene. He has participated in many international projects, in particular with North American bands: he was regular with the formation Brecker Bros., after the disappearance of Michael Brecker, for example.
He currently works in Spain, where he teaches clarinet and saxophone, at the Superior Center of Music of the Basque Country and at the Conservatory of Leioa.
