Vidigueira_1Lagoa, Cidade do Vinho 2016, showcased the very best in the wine sector, in the second edition of the event “Vidigueira Branco – Wine and Cante Fair”, which took place between March 24 and 27, in that Alentejo village.

Lagoa, represented by its councilor Luís Encarnação, took the opportunity to promote the award-winning wines produced in the municipality, as well as the tourism sector.

The traditional dances and songs from Lagos also traveled to the event, through the presentation of the Rancho Folclorico do Calvário.

«The Municipality of Lagoa, after the effort of its candidacy for Cidade do Vinho 2016, saw that this privilege would constitute a huge success, assuming, from the outset, that it would be present in the dissemination events related to viticulture, in order to promote the excellent and recognized quality of the Algarve's wines, namely those from Lagoa», said councilor Luís Encarnação, at the opening of the fair.

The municipality, he also underlined, «uses this opportunity also to publicize the excellent and unusual characteristics of a region that knows how to welcome visitors and that has a high-quality tourist potential, supported by a variety of cultural and sporting events, during all year".

Vidigueira_3His words were in line with the thoughts of those responsible for the Vidigueira Chamber, who, too, believe that this type of event contributes to the strengthening of the county's tourist attraction, promotion of the territory's productive excellence in the wine domain, dissemination of wines from sub-region, especially whites and the Antão Vaz variety.

In another aspect, this cultural, the event “Vidigueira Branco – Wine and Cante Fair” serves to dignify the Alentejo cante as a factor to promote the Alentejo culture and promote the traditions of Mediterranean cuisine and migas in particular.

The fair, organized by the City Council of Vidigueira, was intended to promote wines from the Vidigueira wine-growing sub-region, as well as olive oil, Alentejo cante and traditional cuisine, with exhibition and sale of agri-food products, bread workshops, showcookings, wine tasting and musical and entertainment shows.
