GNR Silves (Medium)An illegal casino that operated in Parchal, in the municipality of Lagoa, was closed yesterday by the Criminal Investigation Nucleus of the GNR of Silves. The space manager, a 34-year-old man, was arrested and 20 men and two women were appointed as defendants.

As part of the operation, the GNR searched a vehicle and two residences in the municipalities of Lagoa and Portimão and seized five game tables, 50 chairs, 75 decks of cards, ten game chip bags, 840 poker chips and 8 557 euros in cash.

The GNR also seized alcoholic beverages, soft drinks and snacks, which were on display for sale, as well as several trophies related to tournaments held at the site.

The casino was located in an old workshop, on the ground floor of a house, and «in addition to the furniture to support the practice of gambling, it was also equipped with a video surveillance system that allowed monitoring of its interior», adds the GNR .

The detainee, residing in Portimão, will be present this Friday at the DIAP in Portimão.

The operation had the support of military personnel from the GNR's Special Operations Intervention Group and military personnel from the Intervention Detachment of Faro.
