Pedro Martins wonThe Algarvian Pedro Martins, from CHE Lagoense, won this Sunday the Jamaica International Badminton Open, beating the Austrian David Obernosterer in the final, by 21-19 and 21-17.

Pedro Martins, who entered the Olympic qualifying places last week, added his second consecutive title, after winning the tournament in São Paulo, Brazil.

According to ranking of qualification updated by the international federation of Badminton last week, even before the Jamaica Open, the Portuguese player, by winning the International Cup of Brazil, had added 2.480 points and climbed to 33rd place on the «Race to Rio» list, with 21.970 points, becoming one of the 36 athletes who occupy the qualification zone for the 2016 Olympic Games.

As of March 22, Pedro Martins and Telma Santos (the other Portuguese player already pre-qualified for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics) will continue to defend their respective positions at the New Zealand Open, in Auckland, a category tournament Grand Prix Gold, with $120.000 (about 106.000 euros) in prizes.

The Olympic qualification closes on May 1st and will be defined based on the ranking released on May 5th.
