With this victory, the 26-year-old Portuguese athlete earned more points for the ranking and took an important step to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, thus trying to make his second consecutive presence in the Olympics, after having been in London in 2012.

Pedro Martins defeated Dziolko by the partials of 21-18 and 22-20, in a match that lasted 51 minutes.

«I am very moved, proud and happy for winning this gold medal. This victory is not just mine, but of all those who supported me and support me daily. Listening to the national anthem, I felt proud to be Portuguese», said the athlete from Lagos, cited by the newspaper «Record».
