jose afonsoVitorino, Filipa Pais, Francisco Fanhais, João Afonso and Rogério Pires, the choral group Ceifeiras de Entradas and Flor de Sal will take the stage at the Cine-Teatro António Pinheiro, in Tavira, on Saturday, 13th, to mark the nucleus' 1st anniversary of Tavira da José Afonso Association (AJA).

Since it was created, the Tavira's AJA core it has already promoted two shows in the city, “Sentir Abril” and “Maio, Maduro Maio”, having also marked some events such as International Women's Day.

birthday act taviraNationally, AJA has existed since 1987, has 14 centers spread across the country, two of which are in the Algarve (Quarteira and Tavira), and for 29 years has been promoting debates, conversations, exhibitions, meetings, theater shows, book presentations, concerts and activities aimed at “valuing the legacy of José Afonso and the different musical expressions of Portuguese popular roots”.

At the commemoration scheduled for Tavira, there will be a tribute to Alipio de Freitas, who was a priest in Portugal and a revolutionary in Brazil. Father of the Brazilian singer Luanda Cozetti, he is a journalist, promoter and leader of various social movements and civic associations.
