The photography exhibition “A Cidade eo Rio”, by Virgínia Maio, opens on February 19, at 21 pm, at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes, in Portimão.

The author, of whom this is the first public exhibition, told the Sul Informação that the show presents some of his “looks over the city”. "The idea is that my eyes spark spontaneous conversations on the topic exposed and are, above all, a meeting of friends," he added.

Born in June 1966 in Monchique, Virgínia Maio grew up with the green of the landscape and the charms that this village contains, by itself, an endless beauty to photograph.

At the age of eight, he discovered his grandfather's old camera, starting to understand life and things as a scenario that needed to be framed.

In adolescence he felt, what he now perceives, that "sometimes it is necessary to distance ourselves from the landscape in order to be able to contemplate it". That's why, at the age of 18, she came to study in Portimão, at the age of 19 she enrolled in the occupation of Free Times, having been placed in the Documentation Center, then in the Municipal Library of Portimão, where she still works today.

He took a black and white photography course with development in a darkroom, attended some photography workshops and is part of several national and international photography groups, in which he has seen his photographs distinguished with honorable mentions, both for quality and by the originality of the look.

She is an amateur in love with looks and moments that frame her creativity and inspiration. Part-time, he took photos of weddings and christenings.

In 2015, he exhibited for the first time some thematic photos (about the flowers in the garden he maintains in the Municipal Library of Portimão, included in the celebrations of World Photography Day).

She is considered a rebel when it comes to photographic rules and techniques, generally does not use them, retouching only the contrast and light so that the final photograph is faithful to the look that inspired it.
