prize givingForty-three athletes from various sports areas in the municipality of Vila do Bispo were awarded for the results obtained throughout 2015, in a ceremony that took place at the Barão de São Miguel Recreation Society Party Room, on Saturday, January 30th.

In addition to the athletes, coaches such as Sérgio Brandão (Surf), Francisco Pinheiro (Bodyboard), Pedro Braz Correia (Athletics), Susana Mendes (Karate Shukokai) and Carlos Duarte (Kickboxing) were also awarded for their performance in the area of ​​regional sports.

The ceremony also served to recognize the Sagres Bodyboard Association, the Novas Descobertas Project, the Infante Sagres Recreative Club, the Barão de São Miguel Recreation Society and the Budens Instruction and Recreation Society for boosting sport in the county, as well as for the effort developed to keep their athletes in competition.

The event was animated by comedians Eduardo Madeira and Tânia Lucas. Also present were the mayor of Vila do Bispo Adelino Soares and councilwoman Rute Silva.

This initiative aims to publicly recognize the effort and merit of athletes who have stood out for their participation in regional, national, European and world championships. In the spotlight was Joana Schenker, athlete «with high sporting merit for being two-time European champion in the Bodyboard modality», according to the municipality.

List of winners in the highlighted sports:

Motocross: Pedro Afonso (6th place in the National Championship, Class TT3) and João Lourenço (2nd place in the National Enduro Championship, Open Class. Also ranked 4th in the National Super Enduro Championship, Prestige Class and in competitions team won 8th place by teams in the international Six Days of Enduro event, which took place in Kosice, Slovakia;

Triathlon and Duathlon: Carlos Duarte (10th place in the National Long Triathlon Championship and the National Triathlon Sprint Championship; 7th place in the Portuguese Triathlon Cup and 9th place in the National Duathlon Championship) and Fernando Damas (2nd place) in the National Duathlon Championship and 1st place in the Triathlons of Luz, Cascais and Sagres;

Athletics: Roberto Glória (2nd place in the Regional Championship of Corta Mato Longo Juniors in the XLIV Grande Premio dos Reis and in Juniors in the 38th International Crosse das Amendoeiras), Gabriel Ludwick (1st place in the 60 m in the Regional Children's Championship and in the Salto in Length in the Regional Children's Championship), Elias Castela (5th place Dart Throwing in the Children's Regional Championship), João David Ferreira (4th place in the 800m in the Regional Absolute Championship and 1st in the Circuito Concelhio Cidade de Lagos) and Pedro Braz Correia ( 1st place in the 800m Algarve Regional Championship and 1500m Algarve Regional Championship;
