In 2016, the Socio Sport School of the Real Madrid Foundation completes its fifth year of activity in Vila Real de Santo António and is preparing to train more than a hundred students in the municipality. In total, around 500 students have already gone through the institution.
According to the Chamber of VRSA, "with the objective of integrating young people at risk, with learning difficulties or in environments where it is not possible to practice sports, the institution has developed an educational program in partnership with school groups and the municipality of VRSA, being considered by the Madrid emblem as an “example of excellence”».
This was Real Madrid's first school at national level and has, in the 2015-2016 school year, four classes. The establishment encompasses football and basketball modalities and involves children aged between 6 and 13 years.
The municipality adds that, "over its five years of activity, it has already trained more than half a thousand students, encouraging healthy ways of life and instilling in young people identified by the partner entities values such as solidarity or team spirit."
For having obtained excellent results this academic year, the Foundation offered sports equipment to all students.
For Conceição Cabrita, vice-president of the Vila Real de Santo António City Council, “throughout its five years of activity, more than a school, this institution has been a reference in the life path of many of these young people, instilling them values of team and solidarity and avoiding situations of exclusion».
Classes take place in the locations of Monte Gordo (football), Vila Nova de Cacela (basketball) and Vila Real de Santo António (football and basketball), with the trainees being coordinated by five coaches and four trainees.
The methodologies used «are aimed at rewarding merit and take into account factors such as school grades, behavior, as well as the attendance of students attending the foundation's activities», explains the municipality.
In order to promote the integration of children, «many have joined other emblems and participated in the regional championships of the respective sports».
To guarantee the good performance of the school, the technicians responsible for the project regularly develop training actions and monitor the results, which are periodically sent to the Foundation's headquarters.
