The mayor of Albufeira Carlos Silva e Sousa says he will finally present to the Government the results of a survey carried out on the damage caused by the floods that affected the municipality, on 1 November. The survey will be presented on Thursday, with a view to access by the injured to the emergency fund. The meeting would have been scheduled for a long time, but it was only scheduled «this Monday».
At the end of last week, the mayor of Albufeirense, in statements to the TSF, said that the municipality was still waiting for the appointment of a meeting with the Government.
“I don't like that things are slowing down, we've been doing the best we can, but things are what they are. A meeting will be scheduled shortly, to analyze the processes and find out which damages are eligible”, said the mayor, in statements to that radio.
Words that did not go down well with the PS/Algarve, which considered that the mayor, “instead of following the path of institutional collaboration, putting the legitimate interest of the citizens in first place, preferred to come to the media to make untrue statements and try to alleviate the responsibility for facts whose non-resolution result, until now, of its sole and exclusive responsibility».
The Socialists claim that the Albufeira Town Council was left to carry out a survey, which should have been concluded on January 31st, but which, so far, "has not been concluded, nor has it been received by the Ministry of Internal Administration".
The mayor of Albufeira counters and told the Sul Informação which only did not present the data collected because it was still waiting for the meeting, which was scheduled in the meantime. And he thinks it was good to have made the statements, as they apparently helped to speed up the process of scheduling the meeting.
"What interests me is that people receive their money, I'm not in this to play a leading role," he assured.
Carlos Silva e Sousa says he does not understand the reaction of the socialists, as he did not want to "accusing anyone" for the delay, only pointing to the difficult situation that those affected by the storm of 1 November are subject to. A situation that, as I said before, is becoming "intolerable".
“People want to move on with their lives. They need to buy goods and start preparing for Easter, which is just around the corner, and for the summer. There was no deadline for the allocation of funds from the Emergency Fund, but it was implicit that it had to be as soon as possible», he said.
However, the PS/Algarve has already guaranteed that the launch of the promised special credit lines for those affected by the floods is “for days”.
