The Ala dos Namorados group, which includes Nuno Guerreiro, from Algarve, is the special “guest” of the Gala Lagoa Cidade do Vinho 2016, which will take place this Saturday, the 20th, at night, at the Centro de Congressos do Arade, in Parchal.
But the program starts a few hours earlier. Thus, at 17:30 pm, the book “De Vento em Pipa – When the Wine and the Man Invented Lagoa” will be presented, by the photographer and ethnobotany researcher Susana Neves, published by the Lagoa City Council.
“De Vento em Pipa – When the Vine and the Man Invented Lagoa” is a work of investigation, an essay that exposes the « way in which wine and vine, with determination, were building Lagoa from classical antiquity to the present day» .
According to the Câmara de Lagoa, it is a «jewel book, cardboard and profusely illustrated with unpublished photographs and engravings from different centuries, belonging to the collection of the National Library», which makes «a beautiful and innovative approach to the winemaking reality of Lagoa ».
Susana Neves is also the author of the work “Stories that fled from the trees: a Portuguese arboretum”.
An hour later, at 18 pm, the exhibition of the “Concurso de Labels” will be inaugurated, promoted by the municipality, under the theme “Lagoa Sabor da Cultura – 30 – Year of Wine and Vineyard”.
The event was attended by 42 participants from Escola Secundária de Lagoa and Nobel Escola Internacional, who responded to the Municipality's challenge to create labels for wine bottles, in the red, white and rosé category. The project had local producers, who were also part of the selection jury.
At the Gala, the winners will be announced and the respective prizes awarded by category.
Finally, at 21 pm, the show with “Ala dos Namorados” will take place in the main room of the Centro de Congressos do Arade. themes of your career.

Last November 24, Lagoa was elected “City of Wine 2016”, during a meeting that the Board of Directors and the Intermunicipal Assembly of the Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities held at the Rural and Wine Museum of Cartaxo, where the Municipality competed. the election with Ourém, Ponte de Lima, Santa Marta de Penaguião and Silves.
The City Council stresses, in a press release, that «this election represented the recognition of the effort, dedication and work carried out by a multidisciplinary team from the municipality throughout 2015, “Year of Wine and Vine – Lagoa, Flavor of Culture”, not only in the dissemination of its wine region, but also in the promotion of national wine at various events, namely at the “Lagoa Wine Show” – with the success it was attributed to – and at Fatacil».
After the celebration of the victory in the candidacy, it is now time for work. As part of the annual program of cultural, training and awareness actions linked to wine, with national visibility, exploring its particularities and giving proof of creativity, Lagoa promotes two mandatory events – the Wine Gala and the election of Miss Vindimas – but it goes to organize «various initiatives related to the sector and to the areas of culture, education and environment, among others, contributing to enhance the richness, diversity and common characteristics of wine culture and all its influences on society, landscape, economy, gastronomy and heritage'.
