AccordionThe Algarve Regional Museum, in Faro, will host, from January 10th, the exhibition “The Accordion Tradition in Bordeira”, which will be on display until January 6th, 2017.

According to the City Council of Faro, this show «intends to present several people from Bordeira who have dedicated their lives to the art of playing the accordion, recognized nationally and internationally, as well as renowned accordionists who, although not from Bordeira, have also created strong emotional relationships with this place and with its people».

The municipality of Faro explains that «since the beginning of the XNUMXth century, the accordion has played a key role in the Portuguese popular music scene. It has become an ever-present and essential element at parties and other popular and traditional events. It transformed its chords into a musical identity with an unprecedented acceptance and in which great national names, some of which linked to Bordeira, were influenced».

The small village in the municipality of Faro, «today identified as an “accordion capital”, has seen the birth, over the years, of many top performers and composers. The exhibition that opens will pay tribute to these talented musicians, to the sounds as an intangible heritage of the municipality and to the instrument as one of the heritage references of Bordeira».

This exhibition is an initiative of the Chamber of Faro, with the support of the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, the Algarve Film Commission, the Parish Council of Santa Bárbara de Nexe and the Sociedade Recreativa Bordeirense.

The opening of the exhibition is scheduled for 10:00 am.
