Lagoa_Paulo Gonzo_20Lagoa used the day that celebrated the 243 years of the foundation of the county to present its new brand and to announce that 2016 will be dedicated to the theme «Our People, Our Identity».

The brand «Lagoa do Algarve», which privileges shades of blue and the theme of water, was presented on Saturday night, in an almost sold out Municipal Auditorium in Lagoa, to attend a concert celebrating the 40 years of Paulo Gonzo's career.

Mayor Francisco Martins recalled that, after the year 2014 was dedicated «to the sea, with all our coast and beaches», having this theme motivated «more than 80 initiatives», and 2015 was dedicated «to perhaps our best-known product, wine», in 2016 «we are going to give what is most genuine, our people and identity, what sets us apart from everyone else».

“We are from Lagos and we are proud of our roots, history and origins and that is what we want to elevate throughout this year. We have given a lot to the world, but we have also known how to receive», he stressed.

The mayor also pointed out that, throughout the current year, Lagoa is also the “City of Wine”, a distinction that will motivate many initiatives related to the sector.

To affirm the name of Lagoa, the Municipality is betting on its presence, in some cases for the first time, in international tourism fairs, such as Barcelona, Madrid, Berlin, Paris or London, especially as these cities are now connected to the Algarve by direct air routes to the airport of Faro.

The first participation began precisely today and continues until Sunday, January 24th. This is the 36th edition of FITUR – International Tourism Fair, in Madrid, Spain.
