"There was a lot of openness on the part of the parties that support this government to start a new analysis of the situation in the barrier islands and to sensitize government decision-makers so that a different solution can be reached from the one presented so far," revealed Je Suis Ilhéus, in a press release.

"It will still be a winding and difficult path, but the political will must combine a new reality and that was the promise we brought," added the movement.

The representatives of the owners of houses on the Ria Formosa barrier islands who traveled to Lisbon received a guarantee from the Vice President of the Assembly of the Republic José de Matos Correia that they will be able to present their arguments against the demolitions before a Parliamentary Committee that will be created.

The petition requesting the suspension of the demolitions that was delivered gathered around 4300 signatures, a number of signatories that makes the petition obligatorily discussed in plenary.

Protest Ilhéus Final Polis Meeting 2015_11On the penultimate day of 2015, after a general meeting of the Polis Society of Ria Formosa, the mayor of Olhão António Pina (PS) had already assured the members of the movement and other protesters that they had gathered in front of Chalet João Lúcio, where it took place. the meeting, that there was a commitment on the part of the Government to involve the autarchies more in the decision process of the actions to be taken, in the scope of the Polis.

For the islanders of the barrier islands, a greater influence from the local authorities “makes perfect sense, and we hope that it will happen”.
Anti-demolition activists reaffirmed that they are not against the Polis Society, but “against the policy of priorities of that same society, because all those who live in the Ria Formosa know that pollution, through sewage that flows directly into the Ria and Etars that do not work, is what causes the calamity in this nature reserve».

"We do not accept the fact that they use the issue of the environment to demolish houses, because the environment is not just flowers and butterflies that we love so much, the environment is the relationships, namely the relationship of people with the environment that surrounds them. . The inhabitants of the Ria Formosa cannot be discarded from this ecosystem as if they had never been part of it», defends the movement.
