GNR dismantles Silves main supply pointThe GNR believes it has dismantled «one of the main supply points» of cannabis in the municipality of silves, upon discovering a plantation with 54 plants in a small village in the parish of São Bartolomeu de Messines.

The military involved in an operation that took place over the weekend, arrested a 38-year-old man and seized drugs and weapons, as well as material that had been stolen during New Year's Eve from a house on the Cano site, also in São Bartolomeu of Messines.

The reason for the search of the house of the detainee, located in Sítio do Barrocal, was the suspicion that the man could be linked to the theft. During the search made to the house, most of the gold pieces that had been taken by the assailant (already identified by the owners) and 2181 euros were recovered.

The military ended up discovering, in a compartment attached to the suspect's dwelling, a cannabis plantation. The room, describes the GNR, had "all the elements necessary for a controlled cultivation of plants, the said division being equipped with air conditioning, thermal fans, irrigation system, lamps, timers and even temperature and humidity controllers".

In all, 54 plants, measuring up to one meter in height, 72 grams of dried "ready for sale" cannabis leaf and a precision digital scale were seized. The man also kept weapons in the house, including a .32 caliber revolver and a saber bayonet, which earned him detention for the crimes of drug trafficking and possession of a prohibited weapon.

The detainee, with a criminal record for crimes against property (which includes reception) and drug trafficking, is being presented to the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action of the Public Ministry of Portimão to apply the coercive measures deemed appropriate.
