The Municipality of Olhão transferred close to one million euros to sports, youth and cultural entities in the municipality, in 2015.
In addition to providing direct support to clubs and associations working in these areas, the municipality has fulfilled "a promise of this executive" and financed the restoration of the Lusitano Ginásio Clube Moncarapachense facilities.
For sports clubs, an amount of around 215 euros was earmarked. "The Ginásio Clube Olhanense received around 50 thousand euros, the Clube Maritimo Olhanense over 22 thousand euros, the Clube Oriental de Pechão was subsidized with around 21 thousand euros and the Sports Association Quatro ao Cubo with 28 thousand euros", according to Chamber of Olhão.
For the renovation of the facilities and the laying of synthetic grass at the Lusitano Ginásio Clube Moncarapachense field, 250 thousand euros were earmarked, under a program contract that will last for four years.
The county's cultural and youth associations received “more than 200 thousand euros”. Among «the many supported entities», the municipality highlights the approximately 9 euros given to the MOJU – Associação Movimento Juvenil in Olhão, «whose work in terms of cultural exchange has been quite positive», and the 4 euros allocated to the association Movidance.
“The 1st December Philharmonic Band in Moncarapacho received more than 7.000 euros and the Parish of Nossa Senhora do Rosário in Olhão received 6.000 euros."
The mayor of Olhão stressed that the «effort to reduce the debt» of the municipality, made at a time of «restraint and balanced budget», was achieved without «withdrawing or reducing the support of the program contracts, or forgetting the most pressing works ».
