low guadiana journeysThe António Rosa Mendes Municipal Historical Archive, in Vila Real de Santo António, receives, on January 22nd, the inaugural session of the III edition of the Jornadas de História do Baixo Guadiana.

According to the Vila Real de Santo António City Council, «the initiative is divided into three sessions, during which researchers from different historiographic areas will share themes related to the history of Baixo Guadiana, where the “Grande Rio do Sul” assumes a central role» .

The first meeting is scheduled for January 22, at 9:30 am, and begins with the communication «Eat gut-for-a-fora? – Human food strategies of the century. I to XIII in the Algarve: zoo-archaeological data and associated literature», conducted by Maria João Valente, from the University of Algarve.

The inaugural session will also address the issue of «Retabular Architecture in Castro Marim», with Art Historian Marco Sousa Santos.

In the afternoon, starting at 14 pm, the journeys reserve a visit to the municipality of Castro Marim, guided by Marco Sousa Santos and Pedro Pires, Heritage Technician at the municipal company Nov Baesuris (Castro Marim).

The Baixo Guadiana History Journeys are organized by the Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António / António Rosa Mendes Municipal Historical Archive and count, among other speakers, with the collaboration of researchers, university professors, heritage technicians, editors, among others.

The days are part of the cultural program of the Eurocity of Guadiana, a project that involves the municipalities of VRSA, Castro Marim and Ayamonte (Spain) and has the mission of cultural sharing on the Guadiana border.
