Portimonense defeated Arouca, from I Liga, by 4-1, at Municipal de Portimão, in the first round of the group stage of the League Cup.

The Algarvians started this new stage of the competition in the best possible way, where they will still have to face Sporting and Paços de Ferreira, largely because of André Carvalhas, who signed a hat-trick.

The game, at Municipal de Portimão, started balanced, with the visitors taking over the game more, but without preventing the ones from Portimão from daring to attack.

It was, moreover, from a quick move by Portimonense's attack that the first goal of the match emerged. Buba, launched deep, was brought down by goalkeeper Rui Sacramento in the area and the referee awarded a penalty.

Called to convert, André Carvalhas started a personal count that would be long, by converting the maximum punishment, in the 14th minute.

Arouca reacted and created some good opportunities, reaching the goal in the 35th minute, by Roberto. The tie would last for a short time, as, on 39 minutes, Nelson Barbosa scored in his own goal, putting the home team in advantage again.

Arouca's men entered the dressing room in a complicated situation and saw the case become more serious in the first minute of the second-half game. André Carvalhas opened the book, shot across and in an arc from the edge of the area and raised the stadium with the great goal he scored.

The 4-1 came 10 minutes later, again with a penalty, scored by André Carvalhas (who suffered the foul), in the 46th minute. On 74 minutes, Arouca benefited from a penalty in their favor, but wasted this sovereign opportunity to reduce the disadvantage.

On January 19, Portimonense will host Sporting, ending the League Cup group stage with a trip to Paços de Ferreira on the 26th.
